Political:
· In Haiti, slaves are leading revolts for independence.
· The Napoleonic wars are beginning in Europe which is leading to revolts in European colonies.
· In Cuba, slavery is being abolished and, is becoming independent of Spanish rule, though not from U.S. rule.
· Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and other Latin American countries are declaring independence from their mother country.
· Mexico's president, Juarez, stops paying debts which starts French intervention.
· The Monroe Doctrine starts the U.S. patrolling the Caribbean.
Economic:
· As many nations are gaining independence from their mother country, they begin their own forms of government, which are mostly democratic.
· Slaves are getting imported to work on plantations.
· Markets such as Cuba's sugar market is finding a place in the industrializing world.
Religious:
· The Jesuits were forced out of Latin America in 1767.
· Christianity is prominent
· Many countries chose to worship freely.
Society:
· Hierarchy continues despite gained freedoms.
· New castes such as the Creoles, and mestizos were created.
· Western culture prevails.
Innovations:
· Primitive anesthesia and other medicines were coming out.
· Medical practices were improving.
· European inventions influenced much of their culture.
· The industrial revolution brought about faster agriculture techniques and more efficient use of man power.
Arts:
· Western culture promotes Christian based arts, though Spanish and European influences it as well.

Latin America is south of North America and consists of the countries in which Romance languages are used.
