The Corvee.
In the period of 600 BCE to 600 CE, there was a system of forced, unpaid labor know as the corvee. It was an annual tax that is paid as labor rather than money. Most commonly found in feudalistic societies, it was used to maintain roads, royals estates, and build royal projects.

Slavery
In the Persian Empire, a large amount of work was needed to be done, either by animal power or man power. Although they got paid, they had little more status than livestock. They could be bought or sold and everyone who worked for the king was considered his slave. Slaves worked as anything from farmers to cooks to eunuchs, and were commonly acquired through winning or losing wars. Debts could be paid by money, goods, service or slave labors such as corvee.
Peasants
Most ordinary people were employed by a work group of a shop, and they amount of skill or the work done determined the rations one got. Some jobs were restricted by gender. Women were generally given positions of higher responsibility.
Family and House hold protection.
The basic social unit in Persia was the family, rather than the tribe or clan. Fathers had all the power in the family, while children were subject to their parents, especially fathers.
